On January 24, 2018, the SCHULEWIRTSCHAFT working group and the JOBSTARTER plus project "Berufsausbildung.IT Heilbronn-Franken" were guests at Würth IT in Waldzimmern. Teachers, representatives of the employment agency and businesses from the Hohenlohe and Main-Tauber districts met to discuss the topic of "Career orientation and job profiles in IT". Initiated and coordinated by the SCHULEWIRTSCHAFT service center under the direction of Thomas Hetzel and the working group chairs Karin Endres and Gerd Seitz, many facets of IT vocational training were discussed.

The event began with a presentation of the modern computer center in Waldzimmern by Harald Holl, who is responsible for the site. Claus Hoffmann, Head of the Vocational Training.IT project, gave the guests a vivid presentation of the latest trends in information technology. In particular, he addressed digitalization, Industry 4.0 and the associated fourth industrial revolution. He also outlined the future situation for the Heilbronn-Franken region, with the Chamber of Industry and Commerce predicting an average shortage of 20,000 skilled workers per year in all sectors by 2030. connect.IT, the IT network for Heilbronn-Franken, offers a contact and advice center for training in IT professions with the project Berufsausbildung.IT, which is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the European Social Fund (https://connect-it.hn/projekt-berufsausbildung-it/).

In addition to the general trends, the participants of the working group then had the opportunity to take a look behind the scenes of training and career guidance at Würth IT. Karin Beier, responsible for the dual study programs, showed how career orientation can take place at a very early stage in the IT company. For example, primary school children can design their own comic on the computer, young people can try out IT at a vacation camp or try out the first steps of training as an IT specialist or dual studies in the fields of business informatics, computer science and online media as part of a school internship. Philipp Schwarte, trainee IT specialist for system integration, and Anna Keller illustrated the tasks that IT specialists deal with on a daily basis. They vividly demonstrated how a network environment can be simulated in a network training workshop.

Finally, HR Manager Anastasia Meinikheim thanked the more than 30 participants and speakers for their attendance and the stimulating technical discussions on the subject of career guidance and training.
