The world of artificial intelligence (AI) has made incredible progress in recent years, led by groundbreaking developments such as OpenAI's ChatGPT. Within five days of its release in November 2022, one million users worldwide signed up, with 100 million now actively using it every week.

According to the plans of the IPAI (Innovation Park Artificial Intelligence), our region will also play a central role for applied artificial intelligence in Europe in the future. The IPAI in Heilbronn is an ambitious project that aims to cover the entire AI value chain. As a unique innovation-promoting ecosystem in Europe, the IPAI brings together a wide range of players - from companies and start-ups to research institutions, science and the public sector. The IPAI focuses on applied AI in areas such as production and logistics, trade, public services and healthcare as well as life sciences. The park focuses on the qualification of specialists, research, development, application and commercialization of ethically responsible AI. In this center for innovation and technology, research, the development of artificial intelligence and practical business applications are closely linked. This is in line with IPAI's core values: sustainability, digital responsibility and the pursuit of European sovereignty.

Another milestone is the recently announced strategic partnership between the IPAI and Aleph Alpha. Aleph Alpha, known for its leading role in the field of explainable AI and the development of advanced language models, is seen as a central player in the German nucleus for AI applications. This collaboration aims to create Europe's most relevant platform for applied AI by bringing together leading expertise, resources and innovation in the AI landscape.

In light of these impressive advances, the Heilbronn-Franken region is facing an exciting challenge and opportunity. We are at the beginning of an era in which AI technologies are actively finding their way into a wide range of industries and business sectors in our regional economy. The IPAI plays a key role in this by not only serving as a research and development platform, but also as a catalyst for the transfer of AI technologies to SMEs. By combining science and business, the IPAI creates ideal conditions for developing innovative AI solutions that both increase efficiency and enable new business models.

As connect.IT Heilbronn-Franken, we are actively committed to technological change in our region. A central highlight of our initiatives is our annual connect.IT Barcamp, an unconference that has been attracting almost 200 participants from the IT community since 2014. At this open event, where participants design the agenda themselves at the beginning, we promote exchange on the latest trends in IT and digitalization. In June of this year, the barcamp took place in cooperation with Heilbronn University and the KI-Salon under the motto "AI - who are you and what does our common future look like?". A lively platform for discussions, knowledge transfer and the stimulation of dialog on various aspects of AI. This format has proven to be a valuable tool for strengthening networking between stakeholders from different areas and creating a common basis for future cooperation.

We should all aim to foster a strong ecosystem for AI in our region that not only drives technological innovation, but also contributes to the sustainable and responsible use of AI. In this way, we can ensure that Heilbronn-Franken is at the forefront of this exciting technological revolution and benefits from the many opportunities that AI technology offers.
