A "sustainable retrospective" on the 21st scrum table

We had a distinguished guest at the September Scrum Table: Daniel Hommel from Emendare gave us a workshop on "Sustainable retrospectives". And it really was a workshop, because we were all very busy working together to find out what makes a retrospective sustainable and how dysfunctions can be avoided.

Although we approached Daniel Hommel with very different levels of knowledge about retrospectives, we quickly found common ground and got straight into the topic.

A big thank you to Daniel Hommel for the excellent moderation and for sharing your knowledge with us.

We are very honored when you take the time for us again. There are still so many topics we want to talk to you about 🙂

Of course, a big thank you to all the participants who, as always, showed great interest and led to an open exchange. We had fruitful interactions.

Here is a brief summary - first the theory in text, then our output in pictures:

Two basic rules for retro perspectives

Prime Directive

"Regardless of what we discover, we understand and truly believe that everyone did the best job they could, given what they knew at the time, their skills and abilities, the resources available, and the situation at hand." (To be read at retrospectives.com; also a German translation on Twitter)

We believe that everyone has acted to the best of their knowledge and belief. For mistakes and problems we have encountered, we look for solutions, not culprits.

Las Vegas rule

"What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas"

We are in a protected space and exchange information openly.

Systematic approach in retrospectives

Retrospectives in the phases Introduction > Collect > Sort / Cluster / Analyze > Decisions > Conclusion
